Precision Bonding Technology: A Standardized Guide to Using Hot Melt Adhesive Film

As the demand for process precision in 3C electronics and advanced manufacturing continues to rise, mastering the correct and efficient application of hot melt adhesive films has become essential for enhancing product yield. Shenzhen Tunsing Plastic Products Co., Ltd. (Tunsing) has released a standardized "Six-Step Application Method" based on the latest DS318 technical guidelines and operational flowcharts.


Step 1: Substrate Preparation and Matching

Before beginning the bonding process, verify the compatibility between the hot melt adhesive film and the materials to be bonded (Material A and Material B). The Tunsing DS318 is specifically engineered for high-performance bonding of textiles, metals, plastics, and wood.

Step 2: First Lamination (Attaching to Material A)

Place the adhesive side of the film in contact with Material A. Using heat press equipment, apply a short burst of pressure (0.3-0.6 MPa) at the recommended mechanical mold temperature (110°C-160°C) to pre-attach the film to the surface of Material A.

Step 3: Removing the Release Layer

Once the initial attachment is complete, peel off the backing release paper (such as glassine paper). This leaves a uniform layer of hot melt adhesive on Material A, exposing the active adhesive surface for the final bond.

Step 4: Assembly of Components

Align Material A (now coated with the adhesive) precisely with the target Material B. Ensure both contact surfaces are flat and free of contaminants to guarantee maximum bonding strength.

Step 5: Second Lamination (Final Curing)

Apply heat and pressure once more using the press equipment. According to DS318 technical specifications, the recommended second lamination time is between 8 and 25 seconds. During this phase, the adhesive crosses its transition temperature (approximately 84.2°C), shifting from a solid to a fluid state to fully penetrate the surfaces of both substrates.

Step 6: Cooling and Setting

The bonded assembly must undergo a cooling process to form the finished product. Cooling allows the adhesive to re-solidify, establishing stable intermolecular forces that ensure a robust and durable bond.
